This session we created some locations for the game (which you can find in Favorite Locations) and created characters. Once that was done, the characters got a short intro to their first scene:
You woke in the darkness to the sound of an old-fashioned telephone ringing loudly in the background of your perception. It was muffled, as if coming from another level of the building.
It was difficult to see in the absence of light, but the room smelled damp and ripe with mildew.
You were each seated on rickety wooden chairs, back to back, facing outward toward the wet, brick walls. Your hands were all tied behind you with nylon braided rope.
Someone answered the phone upstairs, but you couldn’t quite make out what was being said.
As your eyes adjusted to the lack of light, strange figures were made out in the corners of the room. There appeared to be large, rusty knives and other sharp instruments hanging creakily from the open ceiling rafters by hooks and chains. Half of you saw the large, wooden table along the wall before you. It was about 6 feet long and had loose leather restraints attached. Old blood stains were visible.
Hung along the edge where the ceiling rafters meet the walls, there are multiple copies of the photo of a young woman holding a child. (See “items” tab for details.)
The door at the top of the stairs slowly opened with a creaking groan and the basement was flooded with a dusty light. The other half of you saw the following phrase painted on the brick wall in front of you:
“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, SORCERY, strife, jealousy, anger, drunkenness, carousing and things like these. I am warning you as I have warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” —Galatians 5:16 – 21
